CrossFit KMC Opening in June

CrossFit KMC Opening in June

It’s almost time for a new way to get fit – right here in Monticello!
CrossFit KMC is scheduled to open around the middle of June this year. Construction on the new 3,200 square-foot building that will house the CrossFit gym on Kirby premises is currently in the process of being built.
The state-of-the-art gym will be equipped with rowers, Airdyne® bikes, kettlebells, medicine balls, barbells and more. CrossFit is promoted as both a physical exercise philosophy and a competitive fitness sport, and workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastics and other exercises.
CrossFit classes are group training classes designed to motivate and encourage you to reach your fitness goals through constantly changing, functional movements that prepare you for anything in real life activities. Our certified expert coaches will help develop a game plan for you so you can reach your potential. It’s a fun, social and effective way to get healthy.
CrossFit KMC will be open to the public as an extension of health and wellness services developed by Kirby Medical Center. CrossFit, Inc. has pledged $21,000 to outfit the gym with CrossFit workout equipment.

Classes will be held Monday through Friday, three times per day (morning, midday and evening times). Once open, people will be able to register for classes at crossfitkmc.org.

Join us for the Kirby Derby 2016:

  • 5K run/walk and 10K run
  • Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 8:00 a.m. in Forest Preserve Park
  • Online registration is open at www.kirbyderby.org
  • Cost is $30 per participant ($35 on race day)
  • Optional training program is held every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. until race day to help you get in shape
  • FREE Kids’ Race
  • Option to commit to training year-round by participating in three local events for the Triple Crown
Each spring, Kirby Medical Center sponsors the Kirby Derby – a 5K walk/run and 10K run for community members who want to get out and get active! Kirby Medical Center also hosts a training program and runner/walker forum to help runners prepare for the big day. The Kirby Derby is the second leg of the Triple Crown, a series of three races held in Monticello each year.
Last year’s event was the biggest yet with 1,242 participants, including hundreds of local children who joined in for a special Kids’ Race. Friends and family members cheered on the athletes for a good cause: Last year’s Kirby Derby raised money for the Wellness Trail, a public path near the hospital where patients and community members can stroll, bike and enjoy the outdoors.
Don’t forget to register – the Kirby Derby is just days away! And make sure to invite your loved ones to join. It’ll be a great day out for the whole family. We look forward to seeing you there!

Fresh Start is a proven clinical weight loss program that provides education, health assessments and nutritional counseling, as well as screenings for and treatments of obesity-related conditions.
Fresh Start follows the Ideal Protein® nutritional plan and provides exercise and physical activity resources, support groups, psychological counseling, recipes and reading material – all of which help you stay on track with your personal weight loss goals.

If you’re ready for a fresh start, call (217) 762-6241 or emailfreshstart@kirbyhealth.org for more information.

LiveWell

Similar to Fresh Start, LiveWell is a comprehensive approach toward achieving overall wellness focused on physical fitness, nutrition and behavior modification through medical supervision to maximize results.
LiveWell is a six-month revolving wellness approach ideal for anyone wanting to maintain or improve their current health status. LiveWell sessions are held weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. in Kirby Medical Center's Therapy Services gym.
The first session begins with a comprehensive nutrition assessment by a registered dietitian complete with an individualized meal plan. Following sessions focus on healthy diet strategies, behavior modification and physical activity personalized for your current state of health. Each week, members will record weight and physical activity. Members perform fitness activities during health-related presentations led by one of our health experts. Discussions with Q&A are always encouraged for your success.
LiveWell is presented by Registered Dietitian Sara E. Wade, MS, RD, LDN, as well as other health professionals, including an exercise physiologist, occupational therapist and certified wellness coach. The goal is to help families achieve a lifetime of sustained wellness and prevention of chronic disease.
The LiveWell program is an affordable way to get and stay healthy. Fees are $45 monthly. Discounts are available if the six-month program is paid in full.

Meet Our New Director of Health and Wellness Services

Kirby Medical Center is a leader in the community, and our goal is to see people succeed and lead healthy, happy and fulfilling lives. We believe a balanced approach to health and wellness is integral to reaching and sustaining your long-term health goals.
In my role as the director of health and wellness services, I am responsible for the development of exercise and wellness programs such as CrossFit KMC. I also work with the LiveWell and Fresh Start programs, as well as our diabetes education staff, to incorporate exercise as a staple in these programs.
I have several exciting goals I’m focusing on, including corporate wellness and community health. With corporate wellness, we’re increasing health and wellness for workplaces across the region through education and exercise programs, while community health increases awareness and exercise participation for community members in Piatt and Champaign counties.
We’re also committed to Kirby employee health through increased participation in exercise, education and health screenings. As Kirby employees, we know we can better serve our patients when we’re feeling our best, too!
We’ll be keeping you updated on all our health and wellness initiatives as they develop, so be sure to follow Kirby on social media and visitkirbyhospital.org for all the latest.
